Back in my first year at bschool we were sitting in my section room in a Operations class. I was still a bit anxious about contributing in class… Were my comments any good? did I sound okay? smart? interesting? (soon realized I cared way more than anyone else about what i actually had to say…*good life lesson btw) Anyway, we were discussing something which i’m having trouble remembering now but it was along the lines of how people were going to consume information in the future.
For some reason, a busy mom came to my mind, and I was picturing her checking out her calendar on the refrigerator or next to her desk at home (i’m very visual) and then the Minority Report came to mind, you know the part where Tom is in the office and he’s using his hands to touch the video screens in the air and move things all around and it’s this virtual world…(second 12 of this clip… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4eSibJkRCsw)
Right, so blend the two. Mom is going to be using a holographic technology to do her daily lists, calendars etc…maybe not tomorrow, but soon….Somehow this was the comment i made in class. I was using a lot of hand gestures, trying to paint this picture for our class… ..everyone gigged, and comment was kinda skipped over (Damn, low score for my own commentary). I sat back in my chair, slightly defeated… slightly embarrassed, but mostly feeling annoyed … because I’m right…and no one seemed to notice.
Anyway, I remember this day and this comment because I still think I’m right. Now having worked in the digital space more and more, i’m seeing virtual world blended with real world. have you seen this: http://www.ted.com/talks/pattie_maes_demos_the_sixth_sense.html
Section mates, laugh away… it’s coming and I want in.
